In 1999, the Hasan School of Business at CSU-Pueblo established the Thomas V. Healy Center for Business and Economic Research. Today it has taken a modernized approach with customer surveys, market analysis, business event planning, financial analysis, and its most coveted endeavor yet, the SoCo Entrepreneurship Competition.

"One Idea Changes Everything"

The SoCo Entrepreneurship Competition is a competition that is split into two divisions. There is the Student Business Plan Competition and the Adult Venture Capitalist Competition. Both of competitions are extremely competitive as individuals or teams compete to pitch their business plan to be incorporated within the community. The competitions are both evaluated by a panel of judges who select finalists to take home either a scholarship to CSU-Pueblo and/or venture 'capital' seed money or loans that may be redeemable when the entrepreneur opens their business.

  • Students - Be enrolled in a Colorado school
  • EVERYONE - Follow the "Rules of Submission"
  • Adults - Businesses may be start-ups or currently in operation
  • Adults - Proof of LLC or EIN

Cypherpass

Cypherpass is a public key authentication application aiming to secure online interactions through public-key cryptography. Cypherpass believes passwords are inherently insecure and that public-key cryptography is the final solution for authentication.

Graceful Dance Wears

Graceful Dance Wears is an initiative to provide comfortable, convenient ballet shoes to dancers. These shoes would be custom form fitted, insulated through a cushion material to offset the propensity of foot pain.

EZ Protein Machine

The EZ Protein Machine is a small appliance that prepares protein shakes more efficiently than ever before. The Ez Protein Machine is extremely easy to use, allowing the user to prefill water and protein with up to 3-4 weeks supply of different powders, while dispensing tasty, lump free shakes in 30 seconds, all with the push of a button.

Medscan

Medscan is a 3D surface imaging business that would introduce 3D printed custom splints and casts to consumers. They are shower/bath safe, lightweight, precise and accurate to fit the injury, allowing for enhanced mobility.

Colonel Pop

Colonel Pop is an initiative that hoped to expand the culinary tastes and avenues of all aspects of popcorn; offering new unqiue flavors at affordable prices.

Pueblo Permaculture

This initiative focuses on utilizing food compost that is typically wasted to make organic, rich fertilizer. Pueblo Permaculture offers affordable classes and consulting regarding cooking, gardening, permaculture, and nutrition. Their goal is a garden in every school and fresh produce in every home.

What is the SoCo Entrepreneurship Competition?

What are the conditions of the Adult Business Plan?

Each adult business plan submitted must list only one (1) author, to whom any and all prizes will be awarded. Up to three people may present on stage during the finale, including the author.

How do I register?

You can register by clicking the red button in the blue banner that says "REGISTER HERE TO COMPETE" under the About Us section or at the bottom of this webpage.

What is the eligibility requirements for the Student Business Plan Competition?

Be enrolled in a Colorado school. Employees, and family members of employees of Colorado State University Pueblo, Junior Achievement, and any sponsor or partner are allowed to enter and compete if (1) they meet the aforementioned school eligibility criterion, and (2) this relationship is disclosed at the time of competition registration. Failure to disclose this relationship will result in disqualification of the entry. Also, be enrolled in present school year. Complete registration on the website by the assigned date in the home page. Follow “Rules of Submission” and submit business plan entries via electronic drop box on the website by the assigned date in the home page. Registration is free for entrants in the student division, but requires name, age, email address, mailing address, telephone number and respective school, the participant is currently enrolled/attending

What are the deadlines?

Deadlines for Business Plan submissions - March 1st, 2017.
Competition Day for Students - April 14th, 2017.
Competition Day for Adults - April 15th, 2017.

Is the competition free?

The Student Competition division is free if applicants are eligibile under the stated conditions. For the Adult Competition, there is a small fee that accompanies registration. This fee is $10 for entry into the competition and to process your application.
